Lombok with kids.
Why so many of our guests come back with their families — and what makes it easy.
Wave Lombok was designed for families — not as an afterthought, but as the brief. We wanted somewhere our own kids would want to come back to: a quiet beach a sand path away, a pool with a shallow section, an open kitchen, a calm place where adults could relax without losing sight of the children.
That has shaped what we offer guests. The villas come with the practical gear (cot, high chair, baby gates, bunk room). The activities are picked for what works at every age. The beach in front is one of the safest in Lombok at low tide. And the team has hosted enough families that they know what helps and what doesn't.
Below is the practical guide — what's at the villa, where to go, what kids can do, and the questions parents actually ask before booking.
At the villa
What's set up for families.
Cot, high chair, and baby gates
Available in both villas on request — ask us at booking.
Shallow children's section in every pool
Each infinity pool has a stepped shallow zone, suitable for toddlers with parental supervision.
Bunk room
Villa Serangan has a bunk room — ideal for kids travelling together.
Open kitchen, fully equipped
Bottle warmers, blender, full hob and oven — easy to prepare meals at any time of day.
Daily breakfast
Cooked to order, including kid-friendly options (eggs, fresh fruit, pancakes).
Pre-stocked fridge
Send us a shopping list 48 hours before — we stock formula, snacks, drinks, anything you need.
Sand path to the beach
A 6-minute walk on flat ground, no stairs to navigate with a stroller (though sand can be soft).
Beaches for families
Where to go with kids.
Selong Belanak
~10 min
The best learning beach in Lombok. Long, shallow, sandy bottom. Surf schools run group lessons from age 8 with soft boards. Parasols rentable on the beach for shade.
Mawun
~20 min
A perfect crescent bay sheltered by two headlands. Calm, clear water, sandy bottom, very few crowds on weekdays. Our pick for an unhurried beach day with under-fives.
Pantai Serangan (our beach)
6 min walk
Kid-safe at low tide because the offshore reef breaks the swell. Quiet most mornings — sandcastles before breakfast, then back to the villa for the pool.
Tanjung Aan
~35 min
Long, shallow, with a flat sandy bottom. Beach clubs offer shaded loungers and food. Pair with the climb up Merese Hill at sunset.
For the full beach guide (including the surf-only beaches we suggest you keep kids away from), see the beaches page.

Things parents ask in the first email.
Flights and the journey. The flight to Lombok International Airport (LOP) from your home country, plus the connection in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta or Bali, is long. Plan a layover if your kids are very young; many families stop in Singapore or Bali for a night or two before the final leg. Once you land in Lombok, the drive to the villa is 40 minutes on a sealed, direct road — see the getting here page.
Food and water. Drinking water at the villa is filtered and safe. The kitchen has the equipment for any baby food preparation. Major international brands of formula and baby food are available in Kuta and Mataram supermarkets, and we can stock the villa fridge before arrival.
Medical. A clinic in Selong Belanak (5 minutes) handles routine matters. Mataram (90 minutes north) has a larger hospital. We strongly recommend travel insurance with international medical cover for any trip with children.
Sun and heat. Reef-safe sunscreen, hats, and rashguards are essential. Plan beach time before 10 AM and after 4 PM in peak season (June–September). The villa has air conditioning in every bedroom and the pools provide constant retreat.
Connectivity. Fast Wi-Fi at the villa and reliable mobile signal across the south coast. Our concierge is on WhatsApp around the clock.
Frequently asked
Family questions.
What is the youngest age you have hosted?
+
We have welcomed babies as young as a few months old. The villas are fully kid-safe with the gear we provide (cot, gates, high chair) and the team is comfortable around children of any age. Just give us a heads-up at booking so we can have everything ready.
Are the pools safe for toddlers?
+
Each villa pool has a stepped shallow zone — about 30 cm deep — that toddlers can sit in safely with a parent. The deeper main pool is around 1.5 metres. Pools are not fenced from the villa terrace, so adult supervision is always required for young children.
Is South Lombok suitable for a first international trip with kids?
+
Yes, with two caveats. (1) The flight from your home country plus the connection through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta or Bali is long for very young children — break it with a stopover if you can. (2) Once at the villa, you have everything you need: a beach, a pool, a kitchen, daily breakfast, a calm environment, and a 5-minute drive to a clinic in Selong Belanak. Most parents find it easier than they expected.
What about medical care?
+
There is a small clinic in Selong Belanak (5 min from the villa) for routine matters — cuts, infections, mild fevers. For anything more serious, the larger hospital is in Mataram (90 min north). We always recommend travel insurance with medical evacuation cover for international trips. Our team can arrange transport and translation if needed.
Will the heat be too much for our kids?
+
South Lombok is hot year-round (27–32°C in the day) but the breeze and the dry air make it comfortable. Pools, shade, and air conditioning at the villa give you everywhere to retreat. Plan beach time before 10 AM and after 4 PM in peak season.
Are there mosquitoes?
+
Some, especially at dusk. The villas have screens, ceiling fans, and air conditioning. We provide DEET-free mosquito repellent in each villa. The south coast is dry and breezy compared to the inland and northern parts of Lombok, so mosquitoes are less of an issue here than in much of the rest of Indonesia.
Can we get baby food, formula, and nappies locally?
+
Most international brands of formula, baby food, and nappies are available in supermarkets in Kuta or Mataram. If you want a specific brand on arrival, send us the list 72 hours before you fly and we will stock it. For a longer stay, the villa team can pick up restocks during the week.
Are there any age restrictions on activities?
+
Surf lessons start at age 8. Snorkel boat trips work from age 6 (with a life vest and parental supervision). The Mount Rinjani trek is unsuitable for kids under teenage years. Most other activities — Sasak village tour, cooking class, movie night, bonfire, in-villa massage for parents while kids are napping — work at any age.
