Getting to South Lombok.

Direct flights, a 40-minute drive, and a private car at arrivals — the practical guide.

Lombok is easier to reach than most people think. Lombok International Airport is a modern, single-terminal airport on the south side of the island — the same side as the villa — with daily direct flights from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta and Bali, plus one-stop service from most of Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

From the moment you clear immigration to the moment you sit down at the pool, the journey is usually under one hour. The drive is 40 minutes on a sealed, direct road. We send a private car.

Below is everything we tell our guests when they ask how to plan the trip — written from the villa, based on what works.

By air

Flights into Lombok (LOP).

Direct

Singapore (SIN)

~3h

The shortest international hop. Daily flights in high season.

Scoot, Jetstar (seasonal)

Direct

Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

~3h 15m

Daily, often the cheapest international gateway.

AirAsia

Direct

Jakarta (CGK)

~2h

Multiple flights every day — easy connection from any long-haul arrival into Jakarta.

Garuda, Citilink, Lion, Batik

Direct

Bali (DPS)

~30m flight

The most common route. 6–10 flights a day. Treat it as a hop, not a flight.

Wings Air, Citilink, Super Air Jet

One stop

Hong Kong, Bangkok, Sydney, Doha, Dubai

8–16h total

Pick the connection city you prefer. Singapore is the smoothest, Jakarta the most frequent.

Most major carriers via SIN, KUL, CGK or DPS

Schedules and carriers change every season. Check Google Flights or Skyscanner for live availability, then message us — we can usually tell you which connection is the smoothest in your travel window.

From the airport

The 40-minute drive.

LOP sits in the middle of the south coast, in the town of Praya. From the terminal exit, the drive west to the villa is 40 minutes on a single sealed road that runs through rice paddies, tobacco fields and a handful of Sasak villages. There is no traffic worth mentioning — this is not Bali — and the road climbs into low hills before dropping back to the coast at Selong Belanak.

We arrange airport transfers as the default. A driver in a clean uniform meets you inside the arrivals hall with a name board, takes your bags, and walks you to a private air-conditioned car. Chilled water, a charging cable, and Wi-Fi tethering on request. Cost is IDR 600,000 each way (around USD 38) — flat, no surcharge for late or early flights.

For larger groups we use a Hiace minivan or a Toyota Innova, which seat seven or eight with luggage. Add IDR 200,000 for the upgrade.

You can also take a Bluebird taxi (the metered, blue-painted ones) from the official rank outside arrivals. Expect to pay IDR 350,000–450,000. We do not recommend the unbranded drivers who offer rides on the curb — fares are negotiable, the cars are inconsistent, and you lose the part of the experience where someone is waiting for you with your name on a sign.

Via Bali

If you are already going to Bali.

Many guests pair Bali and Lombok in one trip — start in Bali, end here, fly home from LOP. We think it is the right way to do it: Bali for a few nights of restaurants and ceremonies, Lombok for the beach and the quiet at the end.

The Denpasar (DPS) to Lombok (LOP) flight is 30 minutes in the air. There are usually 6 to 10 flights a day operated by Wings Air, Citilink, Super Air Jet and Batik. Fares are typically USD 40 to 90 one way. Book with hand luggage only if you can — the carriers are domestic and checked bags slow things down both ends.

The fast-boat alternative — Padang Bai or Serangan to Bangsal in north Lombok — takes about two hours on the water in good weather. From Bangsal it is a 2.5-hour drive south to the villa, which makes the total journey 5 to 6 hours door-to-door, plus seasonal swell delays. We will arrange it if a guest insists, but for most trips the flight is faster, cheaper and more reliable.

A third option exists for travellers who want the slow route: drive across Bali, take the public car ferry from Padang Bai to Lembar in southwest Lombok, and drive on. It is a full day. We mention it only because it sometimes makes sense for guests bringing surfboards or a long road trip.

Practicalities

Visa, immigration, and the small things.

Most nationalities — including UK, EU, US, Australia, and most of Asia — can buy a 30-day Visa on Arrival at LOP for IDR 500,000 (around USD 32). It is extendable once at an immigration office in Mataram or Praya for another 30 days. ASEAN passport holders enter visa-free for 30 days. We recommend confirming on the official Indonesian immigration website before you fly, because the rules occasionally shift.

Indonesia also requires an electronic Customs Declaration before you reach the immigration counter. The QR code link is in the seat-back pocket on most flights. If you forget, there are kiosks and Wi-Fi at the airport — it takes two minutes to fill in.

The local currency is Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). ATMs at the airport work with most international cards. We do not recommend changing money at the kiosks — the rates are poor. Bring a Wise or Revolut card if you have one, and withdraw IDR from a Bank Mandiri or BCA ATM in town.

A local SIM is useful — Telkomsel has the best coverage in South Lombok. The kiosks inside the terminal sell tourist SIMs (10–25 GB for the equivalent of USD 8–15), or your driver can stop for one on the way to the villa. The villa has fibre Wi-Fi throughout, so a SIM is mainly useful for the road and the beach.

Frequently asked

Getting here.

What airport do I fly into?

+

Lombok International Airport (IATA: LOP), in Praya. It is on the south side of the island — a 40-minute drive from the villa. Do not fly into Bali (DPS) thinking it is close: Bali is a separate island with a 30-minute flight or a half-day ferry between them.

Should I fly direct to Lombok or via Bali?

+

If a direct flight from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta works for your itinerary, take it — you save half a day and one set of bags. If you are already going to Bali, the 30-minute hop from Denpasar to Lombok is fast and inexpensive, and runs 6 to 10 times a day.

How long is the drive from the airport to the villa?

+

40 minutes. The road is sealed and direct. We send a private car with a uniformed driver and chilled water. Most guests are at the villa within an hour of clearing the arrivals hall.

Do you arrange airport pickup?

+

Yes. We book a private car-and-driver to meet you inside the arrivals terminal with a name board. Cost is IDR 600,000 one-way (around USD 38). Larger vehicles for groups of five or more are available on request.

Can I drive myself or take a taxi?

+

Bluebird is the only metered taxi we recommend at LOP. Local taxis and freelance drivers will offer rides outside the terminal — fares are negotiable but the experience is less smooth than a pre-booked car. Self-drive is possible but not advisable for first-time visitors: signage is sparse and the rules of the road are different.

Is there a ferry from Bali?

+

Yes — a fast boat from Padang Bai or Serangan in Bali to Bangsal in north Lombok takes around 2 hours. Add a 2.5-hour drive south to the villa and you are looking at 5 to 6 hours door-to-door, plus weather risk. We only recommend the ferry if a guest specifically wants it; flying is faster and more reliable.

What about the Visa on Arrival?

+

Most nationalities can get a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VOA) at LOP for IDR 500,000 (around USD 32). It is extendable once for another 30 days at an immigration office. Indonesia also requires an electronic Customs Declaration before arrival — fill it in on the plane or at the airport via QR code. Check the latest rules on the official Indonesia immigration site before you fly.

How early should I arrive on check-in day?

+

Standard check-in is 2 PM and check-out is 11 AM. If your flight lands earlier, we will still get you to the villa: pool, beach and a welcome drink are ready, even if your room takes a few more minutes. We can also arrange early check-in or late check-out subject to the prior booking.
